about

All proceeds for July 2021 went to Ktown for All, "a volunteer-led grassroots organization serving Koreatown’s homeless community members through direct aid and political advocacy." Their goal is to advocate for policies that respect the rights, dignity, and needs of people experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles and ameliorate the suffering the crisis causes. Last winter, in the darkest depths of the pandemic, Los Angeles-based electronic composer Ki Oni found himself inspired. The intersection of the organic and the synthetic has always fascinated him, but pandemic isolation brought subtler cross-sections into focus – a duet between a buzzing lightbulb and a chirping cricket, or the soft breath of a laptop fan in an otherwise silent room.

Life After The Digital Spa approximates these gentle interactions – synthesizers burbling like jacuzzi jets or glimmering like florescent lights off of wet tile – continuing the explorations the artist began on recent albums like Indoor Plant Life and Stay Indoors And Swim. Each of these releases sees Soo-Hoo imagining a post-pandemic world where the difference between real life and its synthetic approximations are warm, gentle, and not always easy to discern.

Soo-Hoo splits his time between working at dublab, L.A.'s freeform radio station, and co-hosting Contact Wave, the station's resident ambient and experimental music program. He has previously released music on Sound as Language, Inner Islands, Atlantic Rhythms, Doom Trip, Geographic North, Never Content, and Pyramid Blood.
